I initially bought a Zoltrix 14.4 V/F/D modem. When I installed this in my PC, it prevented the machine from booting up.
POST code said that the graphics card had a memory error on it. This despite the fact that the machne had been running quite happily
with my ancient 2400 baud modem. No amount a swapping COM/IRQ settings would improve this.
I took it back to the supplier who tested it and sure enough it worked fine in their PC. At least this proved it was alive. They gave me some BS about
never having any problems and maybe I hadn't seated it in correctly. I've been in the computer game since they were built with tubes but hey I'm human
after all, so I tried it again. No go. Phoned Zoltrix support........."its probably an incompatabilty between the chipsets, suggest you buy a different make"
I guess for a $70 modem thats all the support I'm going to get. So I exchanged it for a Creatix 14.4 V/F/D modem, plugged it in and it worked first time. Well most
of it did. Seems it got shipped with the wrong version of Bitware and the Voice function didn't work. Talked to Creatix who made the 'correct' version available
on their BBS. This now works all but the external speaker. You can hear dial tones and data transfers but not voice mail.
Guessing that this was a problem with Bitware I faxed the problem to them......I'm still waiting for reply?
